Task manager app for flatmates

Task manager app for flatmates

OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW

Unorganised planning of household tasks between flatmates can lead to arguments and an environment that may cause personal discomfort. I designed an app that enables flatmates to quickly know what their household tasks are and make everyone feel comfortable living in an organised place.

  1. EMPATHISE

  1. EMPATHISE

Prior to conducting the surveys and interviews, I created a Blueprint and a Lean Survey Canvas. These instruments guided me in formulating a structure for the methodology that would help in the development of my application. Once done I started with the Research.

SURVEY & INTERVIEWS

SURVEY & INTERVIEWS

My survey was created by Google Forms, was sent on Facebook and whatssap sharing accommodation groups in Sydney and was done by 64 people. It helped me track important issues to address when you live with a flatmate and it served me to understand how users or potential users think and feel about sharing accommodation.

Survey Key Insights

Survey Key Insights

  • 80% have had or have problems getting along with their roommates.

  • Of that 80%, 78% of the people who have had problems has been due to poor planning of cleaning tasks.

I also interviewed 8 people, allowing me to understand their opinions, experiences and feelings. These helped me to find pain points and opportunities. These two methods gave me real data which clarified to me the problems and possible solutions.

Interview Key Insights

Interview Key Insights

  • From the interviews I got comments that hid a lot of discomfort behind the worrying issue of sharing the household tasks. Some of them were: “My roommates are very rigorous about cleaning but only the week when it's not their turn.” "I feel I can´t live like this anymore""I´m thinking about moving back in with my parents".

Prior to the study I thought that there is no communication or planning between flatmates but actually there is, although It´s not working.

The objective was clear, to help improve the planning of household tasks and assist to develop good habits.

I also did a Competitor Analysis and there are no direct competitors apps on the market.

Changes

Changes

  1. I can have more useful space If I fusion together “Task to do” and “Task undone”. It´s gonna be a reminder.

  1. I deleted the description and hobbies of the flatmates because it´s not that important on Home. It could go on another section.

  1. The “Notice board” or “Chat wall” has more protagonism because all the users like the idea of having it on the Home and being able to send quick messages about the tasks of the week.

Changes

  1. Better introduction of the profile, more clean and useful. It includes information of the next task to do.

  1. It wasn´t necessary to have a picture of the person on every task on the profile. It took a big space of the screen and it was not useful.

  1. ¨The incidence¨ button could be useful but not on this wireframe, maybe inside of the “Details” section where you could be able to check the description of the task and add a picture when you finish it.
